About the talk

Public interest for security tends to focus on software security, and one might wonder whether hardware security is still relevant. The reason seems to be that software attacks can be executed with little equipment cost, and can easily be repeated, leading to high scalability and therefore risk.

We show how the two are actually very connected, and that software security is already at risk when hardware security is undervalued. This is argued based on real life examples, where hardware attacks have been used to enable large scale security breaches.
